It was the first day of Shakespeare Week when Chris Lloyd came bounding into our school with that energy for life of someone who loves his job. From the very first email contact, I found Chris easy to work with. He is organised, fits readily into school life, the staffroom, daily routines and is highly professional. Add all of this to his vivacious personality and incredible knowledge, and you are promised a wonderful day of inspirational workshops.
As a historian myself, I could never work out how to make timelines engaging. I need think no further as Chis Lloyd has this sorted. ..and we have bought three metre copies of them all. We are taking up the suggestion that one child a day could pose a question for the rest of the school to answer so that the Timelines are not simply wallpaper but used to inform and educate. I cannot wait to get this started in the Summer term.
Although we chose the Shakespeare workshops, there are possibilities in several other subjects whether nature, sport, science and technology or history and Chris has the knack of adjusting his presentations to the age range of the audience. Yet he doesn’t talk down to children – his questions are challenging but he praises children for all their efforts. His presentations are interactive with witches cackling and Joseph being man enough to pretend to fall in love with Lily…not many teachers could engineer that situation, but the children were hooked, fascinated to find out the outcome of the great romance! And that’s the ultimate outcome: children who are engaged, hungry for facts and knowledge and motivated to make their own discoveries through reading. Job done!
