On 8th December 2015 Chris was invited to visit Fortismere School by Gill Ward, Senior Librarian, and enthralled audiences with his lively “young person’s guide to democracy”.
Gill said “We’d already bought copies of the fabulous Wallbook and used it as the basis of several displays in the library about the Magna Carta, including having prizes for students who had a go at the quiz. Chris did three talks to students from Years 7 to 10 – 120+ in each group, and never flagged in his enthusiasm and energy . They loved the interaction, especially when they were given swords to threaten King John! Chris’s coat of many pockets was used to great effect and the artefacts that the students pulled out really helped to reinforce the historical points being made. The huge timeline that stretched the width of our stage was amazing and emphasised the important fact that history is ongoing and fluid and all events are linked together.
“A history teacher mentioned afterwards that Chris got through our entire history syllabus in an hour – with not a yawn in sight! Our students learnt a lot, and are still talking about Chris’s visit.”
